Todd C. Dicus, JD, CAE

Todd C. Dicus, J. D., CAE, serves on the Board of Directors of TransforMED, a subsidiary of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He became deputy executive vice president (DEVP) of the AAFP in 2001 and was named as the AAFP's chief operating officer in 2009.

Before being named DEVP of the AAFP, Dicus served the organization as general counsel. He advised the AAFP's officers, directors and staff on all legal and ethical issues, including contracts, real estate, taxes, employee benefits, copyright, trademark, antitrust, federal legislation and regulations, and medical informatics. Prior to his position as AAFP general counsel, Dicus was an attorney in private practice, focusing on corporate, entrepreneurial, franchise and tax-exempt matters. He provided frequent legal services to the AAFP during this time.

Dicus is a past chair of the Legal Section of the American Society of Association Executives and served as a member of its Legal Section Council. Dicus also has participated in the group's Strategic Leadership Forum. He has shared his expertise through his contributions to articles in Family Practice Management, Association Management and an AAFP member-education tool From Residency to Reality.

Dicus earned his law degree from the University of Missouri — Kansas City School of Law, Kansas City, Mo. and is a graduate of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. He was designated a Certified Association Executive in 1996.
