Kevin Hutchinson

Kevin Hutchinson is president and CEO of Prematics, the leading e-prescribing and care communications service provider focused on improving care management and coordination by enabling real-time communications with physician practices.

As a recognized expert and leader in health care information technology, Mr. Hutchinson was selected in 2009 to serve on the newly established federal Health Information Technology Standards Committee, advising President Barack Obama's national coordinator for health IT, Dr. David Blumenthal, on the development and use of health information interoperability standards. Previously, from 2005 to 2008, Mr. Hutchinson served at the request of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Michael Leavitt as a commissioner and industry advisor to the secretary on the American Health Information Community, an HHS health information technology advisory body.

Following a year as inaugural vice chair, Mr. Hutchinson currently serves on the board of the National eHealth Collaborative, a public-private partnership supporting the federal government's effort to architect a Nationwide Health Information Network that will enable the secure exchange of patient health information across the country. He is also a member of the board of directors for an American Academy of Family Physicians company, TransforMED, which is focused on transforming the nation's primary care practices into patient-centered medical homes. Mr. Hutchinson currently serves on numerous national advisory boards, including those of Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences, the eHealth Initiative, Markle Foundation Connecting for Health, the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy, PharmMD and BridgeGate.

Prior to joining Prematics, Mr. Hutchinson was the founding president and CEO of Surescripts from 2002 to 2008. He led the effort to build and deploy a national network for electronic prescribing and health information exchange. Under his leadership, the Surescripts network grew from an industry concept to the largest, most successful electronic prescribing network in the country. Today it is considered the nation's backbone for pharmacy and pharmacy benefit manager interoperability, including the routing of electronic prescriptions, real-time eligibility checks and nationwide access to patient medication history information.

Mr. Hutchinson is considered an expert on the development and deployment of health care technology. His testimony regarding electronic prescribing before various U.S. Senate and House committees as well as the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics is influencing the future of industry programs and standards.
